East Devon Carbon Action Programme
Free green support for businesses and community organisations in East Devon
The East Devon Carbon Action programme (EDCAP) has been designed to provide free support for businesses and community organisations of all sizes across East Devon to measure and reduce their carbon impact, bring in more environmentally-friendly practices and move towards becoming net zero.
Our Carbon Coordinators are experts in identifying where the net zero opportunities lie in your organisation so you can start making a difference - to the environment, to your local community, and to your team.
We're working in partnership with digital agency and social enterprise, Cosmic, and environmental consultants, Carbon Sense. Whether you are a business or a community organisation, you can access practical advice and guidance delivered through:
- Tailored one-to-one sustainability and digital support sessions with our experienced Carbon Coordinators to develop individual carbon action plans.
- Our self-learning platform with video resources, how-to guides, and quizzes to help you on your net zero journey.
- Specialist support to measure emissions through a bespoke carbon survey and develop a full Carbon Action Plan.
- Carbon Calculation Workshops offering practical sessions working with free carbon measurement tools and software to monitor and share carbon reduction progress.

Flexible support tailored to your organisation
How does it work if we own our premises?
We can provide specialist support that includes an on-site diagnostic with one of our Carbon Coordinators. This will provide valuable insights into the sources of your emissions and potential areas for reduction and improvement.
What if we don't own our premises?
The majority of businesses and community organisations rent or lease their premises. You can still make an impact with one-to-one guidance on where changes can be made, carbon calculation workshops, a tailored and practical carbon action plan, and access to our self-learning platform.
Can my community organisation apply?
Community organisations covered by the East Devon Carbon Action Programme include charities, community interest companies (CICs), social enterprises (that do not engage in economic activity), voluntary organisations, religious institutions, local authorities, education providers and other public sector bodies with legal status.
Is there a limit on business size?
We're encouraging businesses of all shapes and sizes to measure and reduce their carbon impact. From sole traders to businesses with hundreds of employees, everyone needs to start working on a future-facing business model that grows alongside their environmental and social considerations - and we can help guide you on what that looks like.
We know business owners are time-poor and volunteers all too often lack resources, which is why getting the carbon audit and creating your action plan has been designed to be a streamlined process. We'll help you every step of the way to make it easy, so you can concentrate on managing the day-to-day.
Eligibility
All businesses and community organisations who operate in East Devon are eligible to attend the training and workshops. To receive additional support, the business/organisation must primarily trade/operate from East Devon.
A ‘business’ is defined as a sole trader, micro business, small and medium-sized enterprise, or large enterprise. It also includes social enterprises where these engage in economic activity as well as holiday letting businesses where these are registered on Companies House.
A ‘community organisation’ is defined as a charity, community interest company (CICs), social enterprise (which does not engage in economic activity), voluntary organisation, religious institution, local authority, education provider or other local public sector body, with legal status.
We will prioritise those businesses and community organisations where EDCAP support will likely have the greatest impact.
