SUMMARY:Establishing and maintaining herbal leys on your land
DESCRIPTION:Herbal leys have become an increasingly popular component within farming rotations on South West farms.\n\n\nTheir inclusion and attractive payment rate within Defra’s Sustainable Farming Incentive\, as well as within Countryside Stewardship\, means they are an option to consider carefully within any farm business.This workshop will support any farmers considering incorporating or adding to herbals leys on their farm. \nIt will include: \n\nAn introduction to what herbal leys are\, and the advantages they offer\nManagement of herbal leys for soil health\, forage quality\, drought resistance\, and diversity\nCommon challenges encountered with herbal leys and how to avoid or manage them\n\nThe presentation will be followed by a light lunch and then a field walk to examine different herbal leys\, their constituent species and their management. \nNB attendees are asked to bring a folding or camping chair to this event \nPlease note\, this workshop will not go into detail on the various options available under SFI. To learn more about this\, please find one of our SFI Options workshops here. \n  \nEligibility: \nThis workshop is available to any farmer or land manager in Devon\, Somerset\, Dorset\, Cornwall\, or the Isles of Scilly currently in receipt of BPS payments. \nTo be eligible to participate in the Future Farming Resilience project and receive subsequent 1:1 support or attend further workshops\, you will be required to complete a Monitoring Information form. Forms will be provided by your advisor\, at a workshop\, or emailed to you after an online workshop. Please ensure forms are completed swiftly.
