Overview

The Rural Support and Wellbeing project, run by the Heart of the South West Trading Standards service, aims to raise awareness of the rural support services available to the farming community, through specialist workshops and representation at rural events, such as livestock markets and agricultural shows.

This project is being delivered in Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, and Somerset as part of the Future Farming Resilience programme, funded by DEFRA to support farmers and land managers. The support is free and available from October 2022 to any farmer or land manager currently in receipt of BPS payments.

The Wellbeing Webinar series usually runs on the first Thursday of every month, from October 2023 to December 2024.

The speakers are:

  • “How do we farm in times of drought and flooding? : Looking at the practical steps we can take to manage the weather patterns”, Holly Purdy, farmer and Vice Chair for England Nature Friendly Farming Network.
  • “Livestock movement, recording and identification”, Rebecca Barker, Heart of the South West Trading Standards.
  • “Getting to know your Farming Community Network and the support available for you and your family”, Richard Sampson from Farming Community Network.

The session will also include advice and signposting to wellbeing support services.

Eligibility

This workshop is part of the Future Farming Resilience programme & is available to any farmer or land manager in Devon.

To be eligible to participate in the Future Farming Resilience project and receive subsequent 1:1 support or attend further workshops, you will be required to complete a Monitoring Information form. Forms will be provided by your advisor, at a workshop, or emailed to you after an online workshop. Please ensure forms are completed swiftly. Please be aware that BIP may limit further access to specialist workshops or 1:1 advice, if the form is not completed.
